I have obviously been neglecting my BLOG which is something I did not intend to do when I first starting writing here in January. I thought for sure I'd be able to write a post at least a few times a week and was completely motivated to do so. I could make up excuses like not having enough time but they would just be excuses. I believe when something is a priority in your life you will always find the time for it barring any unforeseen circumstances.
Sometimes you do slip on your priorities. This is a fact of life!! Whether or not it really was a priority is usually determined by whether or not you come back to it.
I do hope this BLOG remains a priority in my life because I really don't want to stop writing. Our priorities in life are ever changing as our lives inevitably change. When my daughter was younger my priorities were basically her, my family and work. Whatever aspirations I may have had prior to the birth of my daughter were no longer necessary, and although I may have sometimes put work as a priority over her that was only because I felt I needed to work hard to provide as much for her as I could. To be honest, I didn't put "love" relationships or even friendships as much of a priority at this time. As a teenager and even into my early 20's I had lots of friends, but as my own time became more precious to me this began to dwindle. I think these changes were a good thing! It made me pickier about the friendships I do keep, and the ones I have now I know I have for a lifetime. However, now that my daughter (and everyone else in my family) is older, married & have families of their own I find my priorities changing once again. Not to mention that recent past events in my life have changed my attitudes towards work, family, love & many other things.
It's funny how life changes you.
So what are my priorities now?
1. Family - having family as a priority will never change, however I am beginning to put my needs above theirs now a little bit more, whether they like it or not. Hmmm, OK maybe a lot more. It's time!
2. Friends - finding more time to talk & be with friends and just enjoy the company of these people has now become a priority. I answer my phone a lot more often than I have in the past to the surprise of some people I know. I'm also looking forwarded to meeting & making new friends.
3. My health - this has been an on again/off again priority for a very long time, however eating a balanced diet and exercising more often has been a priority of mine since last summer & I plan to keep it up. I am looking forward to getting back into biking 4 times a week again once the warmer weather hits. It's time well spent on my body & soul. Also shedding my extra weight is a *must* for me by the end of the summer.
4. Reading/Writing - I used to read every day, and write almost as much and creating this BLOG was my way of getting back into the habit. I will admit I have been writing a lot more than reading but I plan to change this habit soon. There is nothing more relaxing than reading a good book outside in the fresh air of spring (well, when spring becomes +10C and not -5C that is).
5. Having fun - I used to have a lot of fun and perhaps this should be my #1 priority but I'm just not there yet. I have learned that somehow I have become pretty uptight, and rather than just letting loose, not caring about what tomorrow brings and living life to its fullest I instead worry way too much and stop myself from being spontaneous. This is something I know I need to work on and hopefully I can soon make greater strides at becoming the person I once was before life took over. :)
Notice how work is no longer a priority for me. I left a very good paying job about a year and a half ago (just after I broke my ankle) and haven't looked back. I have come to understand that having to deal with financial problems is hard but still a lot easier than having to deal with emotional problems caused by working too hard for people who could care less about your well being.
In another 10 years I expect my priorities to change slightly once again. Life is fluid like a river, constantly flowing towards the sea, and back again. We are in a constant mode of learning and things are always changing to us, around us, by us and for us. How we adapt to all of these changes makes a huge difference! That being said, I hope to always be blessed with the wonderful gifts I have in my life now - health, family and friends. Truly, this is all we really need to lead happy, wonderful lives!
Well, that and a dog! For me at least ...
